Insight Helping Montreal’s Summit School ‘Awaken the Potential’ of Students with Disabilities Via Golf Event

Insight Canada teammates partner with Lenovo and Intel, donating 50 laptops to Summit School students as part of fundraising effort to expand main campus

TEMPE, Ariz., September 30, 2021 Teammates from the Montreal office of Insight Enterprises (NASDAQ: NSIT), the global integrator of Insight Intelligent Technology Solutions™ for organizations of all sizes, will host a charity golf event in sponsorship with Lenovo to raise funds to donate 50 laptops to students at the Summit School in Ville St. Laurent and support campus improvements.

Tee times for the “Awaken the Potential Golf Challenge 2021” will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. EST Wednesday, Oct. 6, at The Royal Montreal Golf Club, 25 Chemin South Ridge. In addition to Lenovo and Intel laptops donated on behalf of the participating golfers, funds raised from the event will help Summit School build a new state-of-the-art physical education and creative arts center for the Ville St. Laurent campus.

Summit School provides a supportive learning environment for students ages 4-21 with different neurodevelopmental conditions and levels of functioning. The school’s programs are designed to prepare students to begin their adult journeys as independent members of their community, equipping them with the confidence and skills they need to lead a fulfilling life.

“These laptops are giving kids access to new lives because their worlds are so dependent on technology,” said Herman Erdogmus, director general of Summit Schools.  “When COVID first hit, many families were not prepared for virtual learning. Some may have had one computer, but all of a sudden, that one computer needed to be used by the parent for remote work. Insight previously stepped in and donated 40 Chromebooks to help the students get through the remainder of the school year. Adding more laptops from our Golf Challenge directly gives our students even greater access to learning.”

For the past two years, Insight Canada teammates have partnered with Summit Schools by raising money to cover the cost of rebuilding a technology room and providing a computer and printer refresh for the main campus to serve its 600 students, in addition to working with Lenovo to donate the Chromebook devices to help the school through the pandemic. The efforts are conducted through Insight’s Reach program, empowering children’s full potential through teammate volunteer efforts and company donations to nonprofit organizations supporting youth through technology grants and STEM curriculum.

“With the changes we’ve seen since 2020 in education around virtual learning, it’s crucial that every student has access to the tools they need regardless of their situation,” said John Dathan, senior vice president and general manager of Insight Canada. “I’m elated that we can continue to build our meaningful connection with Summit Schools, doing what we can to help shape a new generation of technology leaders.”

Overall campus improvements will include building six new classrooms that bring the best learning technology to students within its work-oriented training programs. The $12 million capital campaign also will fund a full-sized gymnasium, cafeteria, rooftop playground and a dance studio as part of a nearly 13,000-square-foot additional wing, said Stu Guttman, director of development at Summit School.

“In Quebec, one in five students have special learning and development needs. Our ability to continue to grow our curriculum — from physical fitness and cultural arts to modern technology — means greater opportunity to develop the social, physical and cognitive skills for hundreds of children. The help of Insight and other supportive members of the community takes us one step closer to being able to awaken the true potential of our students,” said Guttman.

Spaces are limited for the golf event; go to summitgolf.ca to register. Foursomes are $2,000 and individual golfers can sign up for $500. For more information on the Summit School Foundation’s 2021 facilities-improvement campaign and how to make direct donations, go here.
